But as Pia has gotten bigger, it has ceased. She still likes to sleep close to me, but with a little more distance. That's okay with me- my rest is much more...restful! But then, Ron went out of town last week for three days. Pia didn't seem too bothered during the day, he's not here much during the day usually, but at night time, she just couldn't get comfortable. Our bedtime routine grew longer and longer and longer. We'd sing songs-"God Alone", "Salve Regina", "My Girl", "Everything" by Michael Bauble, "Our Hearts Will Rise", the usuals. We had tickle breaks. I would say, "Pia, put your head down" and gently pat the pillow. She would hit the pillow several times in imitation before putting her head down for three seconds. I would rub her back. She would rub my back. (She is very sweet). Finally, we found the way she wanted to sleep. On my tummy. It was cuddly, and sort of cute, but not sustainable for any length of time. But that's what she wanted. To be as close as possible to her mom. Because something wasn't right. Dad was missing.
Ron came home on Thursday! We did a little happy dance and got some hugs and kisses. That night, Pia delayed and delayed at bedtime. Finally Ron came into our room. Pia laid right down on her pillow, snugly between her mom and dad, and fell asleep. Ahhh, back to the way life should be. What a funny little girl.
